CRRG 2009 Annual Retreat
Friday 6 November 2009
Comfort Hotel, Antrim


The 2009 Annual Retreat of the Cancer RRG will be held on Friday 6 November at the Comfort Hotel (to be renamed Dunsilly Hotel) in Antrim.

(The hotel is situated immediately to the left of the off-slip of the M2 when leaving the motorway to go to Ballymena and Coleraine. To access the hotel turn left towards Antrim and take the first left and immediately left again. The hotel entrance is in front of you at approx. 300 yards).

We are pleased to announce that the retreat programme titled, “New Directions in Cancer Research” includes presentations from three external speakers, namely Dr Margaret Ashcroft, University College London, Professor Anthony Staines, Dublin City University and Professor Des Higgins, Conway Institute, University College Dublin. The Nursing and Allied Health Professionals’ programme will commence slightly later in the morning and will proceed simultaneously.

Six breakout sessions, incorporating further shorter talks, have also been organised by members of the Cancer RRG.

The poster sessions are designed to encourage discussion among members and to identify the breadth of Cancer Research in NI. All participants are encouraged to submit posters into one of three categories; (1) Cellular Biology, (2) Molecular Biology, (3) Nursing and Clinical Research. There will be a prize for the best poster in each section.
Please encourage all members of your research group to submit posters. If you have a poster prepared for another conference please submit it to the retreat. The main aim is to get discussion within the members of the Cancer RRG.

Registration forms should be completed by all who wish to attend.

All abstracts will be included in the conference programme. Therefore please adhere to the following abstract specifications:

Registration Form: Please forward with abstract
Title: Brief and specific
Author’s names & affiliation: Below the title (presenting author underlined).
Text of abstract: Arial 11 font, single-spaced (it can contain figures and tables).
Length: No more than one A4 page
Category: Please specify the category (‘Cell Biology’, ‘Molecular Biology’ or ‘Nursing & Clinical Studies’) at bottom of abstract
Deadline: Friday 16 October 2009


Registration is free for all PIs and AIs in the Cancer RRG. If you have new members of staff or research students please get them registered as AIs.

The Mitchell Lecture was initiated in 2007 and is held annually to honour the Chancellor of Queen's University Belfast, Senator George Mitchell, for his enormous contributions to the University and the wider community. This year Queen’s University is delighted to announce that Dr Bruce A. Chabner, an internationally renowned oncologist and cancer pharmacologist, will present the Mitchell lecture. Dr Chabner has devoted both his clinical and research career to the improvement of patient treatment and care affecting patients throughout the world.
